General Conditions of Use - Version of January 4, 2025
The International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD), registered under the SIRET number 784 354 722 00034 and whose registered office is at Chatou (France), has established the present General Conditions of Use (GCU) governing access to and use of the World Register of Dams database, a database owned and operated by the ICOLD on its website at the following address: https://www.icold-cigb.org/.
Article 1: Acceptance of the GCU
Prior to any purchase of a right of access to the database and any access to this database, the user acknowledges that he has read the present GCU and that he accepts them without restriction or reservation. He declares that he is legally capable of entering into a contract.
Article 2: Access to the site
To access the database, the user must have a terminal connected to the Internet. He is responsible for the costs associated with his digital environment (hardware, software and network connection), in particular Internet connection costs.
Article 3: Registration
Access to the database requires the creation of a personal account on the ICOLD website and the prior acquisition of an access right, granted for a period of 3 years from the date of acquisition. Registration is carried out by filling in the on-line form provided for this purpose, for which the user undertakes to provide accurate and sincere information about himself.
A confirmation e-mail is sent to the user with the information he needs to access the database.
The login associated with access to the database is personal and cannot be used by several people (except somes special cases), nor can it be assigned, rented or transferred in any way whatsoever.
The user undertakes also to inform ICOLD by any means and as soon as possible in the event of any observation or suspicion of fraudulent or unauthorized connection to his account.
ICOLD reserves the right to remove, after prior notice, access to the account of a user in the event of a breach of these GCU.
Article 4: Intellectual property
The World Register of Dams database is protected by copyright and intellectual property rights.
Article 5: Availability
ICOLD endeavors to ensure access to the database 24 hours a day / 7 days a week, except in cases of force majeure or events beyond its control, without guaranteeing any result or minimum level of quality as regards availability.
ICOLD may, at any time and without prior notice, suspend or limit access to the Register to carry out maintenance, updating, modification of its content or any other action necessary for its operation.
ICOLD reserves the right to remove, after prior notice, access to the account of a user in the event of a breach of these GCU.
Article 6: Database updates
The database is periodically updated by ICOLD with the most recent data available. Updates may include modifications to the structure of the database, with the introduction of new fields characterizing a dam. The current structure is detailed on the ICOLD website.
Article 7: Quality of database data
ICOLD strives to ensure the best possible quality of the database. However, ICOLD cannot guarantee the accuracy of each value, nor can it supply missing data. ICOLD, the ICOLD Central Office, the National Committees and the members of the Register Committee cannot be held responsible for any errors or omissions.
Article 8: Use of data
Use of the data is the responsibility of the end user. Whenever data is used, particularly in the form of publications, the user is required to indicate its origin by specifying the words “ICOLD/CIGB - World Register of Dams/Registre Mondial des Barrages - xxx”, where xxx represents the database version date (indicated at the top of the search engine page).
Article 9: Modifications
ICOLD reserves the right to modify, at any time and without prior notice, these GCU, in particular to adapt to changes in the site by making new features available or removing or modifying existing features.

Article 11: Applicable law - Disputes
Use of the World Register of Dams is subject exclusively to French law. In the event of a dispute, the French courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
